Privacy Policy

Trope Machine doesn't require an account, and we keep data collection to what's needed to run and protect the site.

What we collect

• Request logs. Every request to the site passes through our own front-end server, which records: the time, the hostname, the page asked for (with any values in the address that look like passwords or tokens hidden), how the site answered, how long it took and how big the answer was; your network (IP) address and the country Cloudflare places it in; your browser's description of itself (its user agent); and the page that linked you here (its referrer). Each spin of the machine is reported to the site as one of these requests, so spins are recorded the same way.
• Saved boards. Reels you lock and save are stored in your browser's local storage, on your device. We don't receive or store them on our servers.
• Shared boards. If you use the share feature, the reel selections you're sharing are stored on our server under a short link so it keeps working for whoever you send it to. No account or personal information is attached to a share link.
• Reports. If you flag a generated reel as a problem, we store the reported text, the reason you gave, and your IP address, so we can review and fix bad content and prevent abuse of the report feature.

What we don't collect

We don't ask for your name, email, or an account, and we don't sell your data to third parties.

Cookies and local storage

We use your browser's local storage to remember your saved boards and theme preference (light/dark) on your own device. We don't use tracking or advertising cookies.

Data retention

Request logs are kept in full for 30 days. After that, only daily totals remain (visits, page views, top pages, referrers and countries), with no addresses or individual requests. We use them only to run and protect the site, such as spotting attacks and blocking the addresses they come from. They're never sold, never shared, and never used to rank or profile visitors.

Reports and share links are kept only as long as needed for the purposes above, and may be periodically purged.

Children's privacy

Trope Machine isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves. Changes will be posted on this page.

Governing law

This policy is governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA.
